Donald George Lenz, of Rosemont, PA, passed away peacefully at home on August 25, 2022, at the age of 91. He was born on September 29, 1930, in Allentown, PA, to George Anthony Lenz and Isabelle Mary Lenz (nee Franklin). His family moved to Drexel Hill where he was a lifelong resident before moving to Rosemont in his later years. He was involved in the Pilgrim Gardens Civic Association from its inception. He was also a devout Catholic who was a lifelong member of St. Dorothy Church since its founding and supported many Catholic charities and organizations.
Don, as he liked to be called, was a graduate of Upper Darby High School and earned a BA in Business from Villanova University. He worked in sales and then at General Electric Company Missile and Space Division before spending most of his career as a Grants and Contracts Officer with the Federal Government. Don’s friends and colleagues often spoke of how he genuinely cared about the welfare of others.
Don married his love, Beatrice Mary Lenz (nee Yost) on September 15, 1956, in Villanova, PA and they shared 56 years together before her passing.
Don enjoyed many interests including baseball, tennis, reading, fishing, gardening, bowling, and photography. He loved watching all kind of sports (especially his beloved Wildcats basketball). But music was his greatest passion: playing the piano, singing in church choirs and as a 71-year member of the Barbershop Harmony Society. One of the original Charter members, he participated in the Delaware County Chapter for 68 years, served as President for several years and made many lifelong friends. Don had a great ability to be able to reach people through his music, and displayed that enthusiasm throughout his life. Even people who didn’t know him for very long have commented about his amazing positive attitude and kindness, even in very difficult situations.
Don was preceded in death by his parents, his wife and his sister Patricia Landig of Orange County, CA. He will be greatly missed by his children Michael (Jodi), Maria Murphy (Kevin), Christopher, Martin (Donna), Victoria Korman (Andrew), and many nieces, nephews, cousins, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Relatives and friends are invited to his Visitation on Wednesday, August 31, 2022 from 6 pm to 8 pm at The Donohue Funeral Home, 8401 West Chester Pike, Upper Darby, PA and Thursday, September 1, 2022, 9:30-10:15 AM at St. Dorothy Church, 4910 Township Line Rd., Drexel Hill, PA 19026 followed by his Funeral Mass at 10:30 am.
