Donald P. Walsh, 87, of Media, PA and Jupiter, FL passed away on May 18, 2017.
He formerly resided in Newtown Square, PA, Villanova, PA, Flushing, Albertson and Garden City, Long Island, NY and Houston, TX.
He was a 1948 graduate of Brooklyn Prep, 1952 graduate of Georgetown University College of Arts and Science, BSS Economics and a 1957 graduate of Georgetown University Law Center, JD. He was a member of ROTC where he served active duty from 1952-1954 as a First Lieutenant during the Korean War.
Donald was a past member of Georgetown University Alumni Senate and Past President of the Houston and New York Chapters of the Alumni Association.
As an attorney, Donald held several positions including Attorney, General Attorney, Chemicals and Assistant General Counsel of Shell Oil Company from 1957-1980 and vice president and general counsel of Sunoco 1980-1992, from which he retired. He was a member of the District of Columbia, New York, Texas and Pennsylvania Bars.
Donald was very active during his career and held the following position: Emeritus Member and Executive Committee Member and Finance Committee Chair of the Board of Trustees of Widener University and Member and Chair of the Board of Overseers of Widener University School of Law, member of the Board of Trustees and Executive Committee of St. Joseph's University, Member of the Board of Consulters of Villanova University School of Law, one of the Founders, Chair, Executive Committee and Member of Board of Directors of the Association of Corporate Counsel, member of the American Bar Association Antitrust section and Business Law section, member and Chair of the Corporate Law Committee of the Business Law Section, member and Chair of the General Committee on Law of The American Petroleum Institute (API), member of the Board of Directors and Executive Committee of the Pennsylvania Chamber of Business and Industry, member of the Board of Directors of Pennsylvanians for Effective Government, member of the Aronimink Golf Club, past member of Hobe Sound Golf Club.
He was the beloved husband for 59 years of Joyce A. (Curtin) Walsh; loving father of Don Jr., Michael (Kathy), Patricia (Scott) and Richard (Chris); dear grandfather of Michael Jr., Kelly and Kayla Walsh, Kirsten and Kara Boggs and Richard, Shannon and Joseph Walsh.
He was a proud husband, father, grandfather, catholic, Jesuit supporter, golfer, poet, joke teller, Georgetown Alum, Hoya, Class of '52 reunion organizer, former Dodgers, Giants, Astros and Oilers Fan and rabid Phillies, Eagles and Flyers fan, scotch drinker, all around nice guy and modest.
Relatives and friends are invited to his Viewing 9:00-10:45 AM Tuesday, May 23, 2017 at St. Mary Magdalen Church, 2400 N. Providence Road, Media, PA followed by his Funeral Mass 11:00 AM. Interment private.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Compassus Hospice, 2 Campus Blvd #200, Newtown Square, PA 19073.
