Dorothy Brennan

Dorothy Zappone Brennan of Lima Estates in Middletown, a retired caregiver and volunteer, born on September 17, 1927, entered eternal life on September 17, 2015, on her 88th birthday at Riddle Memorial Hospital, surrounded by her loving family.



Born in Philadelphia, Mrs. Brennan was a former resident of the Drexel Hill section of Upper Darby and of Kennett Square, Chester County. She attended West Catholic High School for Girls in Philadelphia and later in life became a certified nursing assistant. Dedicated to her profession, Mrs. Brennan worked as a home health caregiver, home companion and on staff at Kendal at Longwood retirement community in Kennett Square before her retirement.



She was also a dedicated volunteer, donating several years of service to the Perry Point Veterans Administration Medical Center in Maryland. Mrs. Brennan was a former member and former president of the Blackenburg/Brennan American Legion Post Ladies Auxiliary in Philadelphia.



Known for her work ethic and her sense of humor, Mrs. Brennan also had a reputation as a wicked good Pinochle player who was adept at Scrabble and crossword puzzles. She was the widow of John J. Brennan who died in 1970 and the daughter of the late Domenico and Caroline Firmani Zappone. Mrs. Brennan was also preceded in death by three sisters and three brothers.



Survivors include her daughter, Carolyn Zinner (Peter), sons, Harry Johnson (Marie) and John J. Brennan (Maryanne), sister, Pauline Ball, brothers, Domenick and Gerald Zappone, grandchildren Kim and Harry Johnson and Lauren and Matthew Purcell, five great-grandchildren and nieces and nephews.



Relatives and friends are invited to her viewing Wednesday, September 23, 2015 8:30 to 10:00 AM The Donohue Funeral Home, 8401 West Chester Pike (cor. Lynn Blvd.), Upper Darby, PA (610) 449-0300 and to her Funeral Mass 10:30 AM St. Bernadette Church, 1035 Turner Avenue, Drexel Hill, PA. Interment SS Peter and Paul Cemetery, Springfield, PA.
