Dorothy E. Giachetti (nee McMullen), age 87, of Springfield and formerly of Philadelphia, passed away peacefully surrounded by her family on September 16, 2014. Beloved wife of the late Paul J. Giachetti, she will be dearly missed by her six children: Liane (Steven) Davis, Patricia "Patti" (James) Giachetti-DiPiero, Andrea Giachetti, Paul M.(Amy) Giachetti, Richard (Michelle) Giachetti and Dolores (Scott) Shank. Dorothy is also survived by her 16 grandchildren, 8 great-grandchildren, her brother, William E. McMullen, sisters Gaye Overdevest and Helen McBlain, and many other members of her large, extended family. She was preceded in death by her parents: Mae Griffith, Gilbert Jones, William S. McMullen and Helen M. McMullen, and one sister, Dolores Kimley. Dot was a devoted wife and mother who was very supportive of her family and their activities. She was a strong, independent woman with a positive attitude. She evidenced leadership abilities from an early age, serving as School President at South Philadelphia High School for Girls (Class of 1945), and later leading numerous volunteer activities through her church and other organizations devoted to serving those in need in her community. After high school, she worked at Norton Lilly Agency in Philadelphia, where she met her husband in 1951. They were married in December of 1952, and moved to Springfield in 1955. In addition to her domestic responsibilities raising her family, Dot worked as a church administrator at St. Martin's Episcopal Church of Radnor, and at the Church of the Redeemer of Springfield. In her spare time, you could find Dot reading, conquering word puzzles, and playing cards with her card club. She enjoyed attending the Media Theatre productions with the "pool ladies," keeping score at games and being the number one fan of Springfield/Dukes women's softball team. She loved to travel. Dot made several overseas trips, including trips to join her seafaring husband during his career, a trip to Italy to meet her husband's relatives in 1979, a voyage along the western coast of South America in 1989, a tour of Asia in 1997 and two trips to Europe, including the Oberammergau Passion Play in 2000. She enjoyed her annual trips to Florida and Walt Disney World with friends and family. She loved the company of her family and her close group of life-long friends. Her smile could light up any room. She was a generous soul who was always genuinely happy to see you. Dot's Life Celebration, will be held on Sunday evening September 21, 2014 at James F.
