Dorothy Jones

August 9, 1936 — May 6, 2014

Dorothy "Dotty" W. Jones, 77, of Radnor, PA. Dotty gracefully moved on to the next life on May 6, 2014, surrounded by the peaceful love of her family, after a valiant battle with melanoma. She was born on August 9, 1936 in Scranton, PA, the only child of Edward and Aldona Witkoski. Dotty grew up in Scranton and graduated from Central High School where she was captain of the cheerleading squad and where she formed life-long friendships. She then received her Bachelor's degree from Marywood College. After graduating, she taught elementary school for many years, first as a full-time teacher and later as a substitute.

Dotty married J. Richard "Dick" Jones in 1958. Together they raised three children as Dick's career took them to many locales including Clarks Summit, PA; Baltimore, MD; Gulph Mills, PA; River Vale, NJ; Pacific Palisades, CA and finally back to the Philadelphia area. Dotty was a devoted mother to her children, always making time for piano practice and recitals, Little League practice and games, school projects, and numerous other outside activities. Filled with compassion, loyalty and interest in others, Dotty met people easily. She developed long and cherished friendships with the many women she met while playing tennis in Stone Harbor and Avalon, NJ and at Aronimink Golf Club in Pennsylvania.

When diagnosed with melanoma 18 months ago, Dotty met the challenge with hope and resolve. She never complained, always maintaining a brave and optimistic outlook for her future.

Dotty was beautiful, stylish, energetic and affectionate. She was generous, loyal and extremely creative, with a keen eye for design and beauty. Dotty was a sports enthusiast and enjoyed watching many various sports at every level of the games -- high school, college and pro. She loved to hike in the White Mountains of New Hampshire with her family and friends. She also loved shopping, shoes, and desserts.

There are no words to adequately express the difference she made in the lives of her husband, her children and their spouses, her granddaughter, and her many friends. Dotty was full of life and brought her kindness, thoughtfulness, light and laughter to everyone she met. She created countless traditions and amusing anecdotes for her family and made every Christmas magical.

Dotty was predeceased by her parents, Edward and Aldona Witkoski, and her in-laws, J. Merwyn and Nell Jones. She is survived by her loving and steadfast husband of 55 years, J. Richard "Dick", her daughter Kathi (David DelMonte), her son Richard, her son Michael "Biz" (Sherri), her precious, miracle granddaughter Colette, her sister- and brother-in-law, Sue and Jack Andrews, and nieces, nephews and cousins.

Relatives and friends are invited to her viewing Friday, May 9, 2014 6:00-8:00 PM The Donohue Funeral Home, 366 W. Lancaster Avenue, Wayne, PA (610) 989-9600 and to her Funeral Mass Saturday, May 10, 2014 10:30 AM St. Katharine of Siena Church, 104 S. Aberdeen Avenue, Wayne, PA. Interment Calvary Cemetery.
