Dorothy Kane

August 4, 1933 — December 14, 2020

Dorothy A. Kane of Wayne, Pennsylvania died peacefully on Monday, December 14, 2020. Beloved wife of the late Robert C. Kane, Sr., mother of Robert Kane, Jr. (Kathleen), Gregory Kane (Jean) and Alison Castle; grandmother to Matthew, Maura, Dylan, Mary Bridget, Brian, Brogan, Liam, and Phoebe. She is predeceased by her brothers Charles and Aloysius, and her sister Eleanor O'Donnell. Her sister, Dr. Peggy D. Snyder, survives her.

Dorothy was a talented musician who specialized in percussion and was a member of the Philadelphia Youth Orchestra while she was a student at St. Hubert's High in Northeast Philadelphia. Her son, Bob, fondly recalled her joining the band at a family celebration to perform a guest drum solo which lit up the room and stole the show. Her sense of humor was sharp and her laughter was infectious, even after suffering the devastation of a major stroke in 2008, and then managing a gradual mental decline from vascular dementia in her later years.

Dorothy’s children enjoyed her gentle spirit on family trips to Ireland, Antigua, the Cayman Islands, the Florida Keys and the Netherlands. Dot traveled the world with her late husband sharing amazing pictures and stories after every trip.  Perhaps her favorite spot was Avalon, New Jersey, where she enjoyed the company of her extended family for many years.

Dee, as she was called by her grandkids, will be greatly missed for her warm heart, intellect and delightful quick wit.

The Funeral Mass and Burial at Calvary Cemetery will sadly be private due to COVID-19 restrictions. The family looks forward to a celebration of her life at a later time in the year ahead when social distancing and restrictions will be relaxed.

In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to Catholic Charities or to the Alzheimer’s Association of Delaware Valley.
