Dorothy Ruble

June 7, 1924 — February 3, 2014

Dorothy Jean Ruble (nee Doyle) passed away peacefully at home on February 3, 2014 after a courageous battle with cancer.

Born on June 7, 1924, in Youngstown, Ohio, she was the daughter of the late Judge Harold Bamford Doyle and Alice Gertrude Doyle (Nelson).

Dorothy graduated from Boardman High School and Miami University of Ohio in 1946. She spent her life helping others as a registered Dietician. She was head Dietician at North Side Hospital, Youngstown Ohio, where she worked until moving to Exton, PA in 1968. After moving, she worked as Head Dietician at Paoli Hospital for 15 years, retiring in 1986. That didn't stop her though. After retirement she continued volunteering with Hospice, Family Services of West Chester, and the Lionville Elementary School.

Dorothy was married to the love of her life, the late William B Ruble for 49 years. In addition to her husband, she was predeceased by two loving children, David B. Ruble, and Alice Mae Keesey, her Brother Nelson Doyle, Sister Barbara Hogg, and many brother and sister in-laws.

She is survived by her daughter, Lisa Serwatka (Garry), daughter-in-Law Karen Ruble, son-in-law Barney Keesey, 9 grandchildren, Robyn, Nate, Joshua, Joey, Nina, Maggie, Will, Garrett, Natalee and 2 great grandchildren, Michaela and Micah. She is also survived by her extended "Serwatka" family members and many loving nieces and nephews, and cousins.

Dorothy "Nana" loved spending time with her grandchildren and was very proud of all of them. She enjoyed her many beach trips, Florida vacations, road trips with her family, and in earlier years her annual cruise vacations with her sister Barbara. In addition to time with family, she enjoyed shopping, reading, and spending time with her many friends, especially playing cards and socializing with the Friday Night gang!

Dorothy was a very active member of Central Presbyterian Church where she had many close friends, participated in many activities, and was a member of Sarah Circle.

She enjoyed sewing and Rug Hooking, and, was a member of the Brandywine Rug Hooking Guild. Dorothy hooked many beautiful rugs over the years. She was also a member of PEO Chapter BP. In both of these groups she had many close and loving friends.

Dorothy was loved very much by all who knew her and will be sadly missed. A celebration of life will be held Friday February 7, 11:00 AM at Central Presbyterian Church, located in Downingtown PA. Calling hours will be from 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM at the church.
