Dr. Chermol, Jr.

December 21, 1934 — January 21, 2018

Dr. Edward J. Chermol, Jr., of Berwyn, PA. And Avalon, NJ, age 83, passed away on Sunday, January 21, 2018, after a brave battle with cancer. Beloved husband of Kay Chermol (nee Fallon) and loving father to Cathy Chermol Schrijver (Robert), Dr. Edward J. Chermol, III (Stacy), Gregory Chermol, and David Fallon Chermol, Esq. (Kelly). Devoted grandfather to Nicholas, Noelle, and Michael Chermol.

Dr. Chermol was born in Philadelphia in 1934 to Dr. Edward J. Chermol, Sr. and his wife Elizabeth. He had one sister, Ann Chermol Delano, who cherished her brother, the one person who affectionately called Dr. Chermol, " Eddie" Ann pre-deceased him in 2015.

Dr. Chermol graduated from LaSalle College High School and LaSalle University, then Temple University School of Dentistry. He was the center link in three generations of Chermol dentistry, that included both his father and his oldest son.

An avid fisherman, he named his beloved boat"The Tooth Fairy", at the suggestion of his youngest son David, who was just 7 at the time and was anticipating a visit from said Tooth Fairy. Families who lived on the bay in Avalon came to know the boat and waved to "The Tooth Fairy" for decades of summers.

A devout Catholic, Dr. Chermol met his wife Kay when they were teenagers in the same Philadelphia parish, MBS. They were married for almost 58 years and Dr. Chermol often said to family and friends, "Kay was the greatest decision I ever made in my life.' " He simply adored his wife, and together they raised four children, instilling in them a strong work ethic, founded in private Catholic education.

Dr. Chermol made just one request when his four children were selecting colleges - that they apply only to Jesuit Universities. He was proud of having two Boston College graduates (Cathy and David), one Fairfield University graduate (Edward) and a graduate of Wheeling Jesuit University (Greg). He often joked that once all of the college, dental and law school tuitions were paid - he and Kay were going to travel the world . . .

. . . And that they did, traveling extensively throughout Europe, selecting a different destination every trip - Ireland, Austria, Germany, Italy, Russia, Ukraine, The Panama Canal and more. But Paris remained their favorite, and every year they returned, renting an apartment for several weeks on Rue de Vaugirard. Every winter for more than thirty years, they spent months at a villa on The Riviera Maya in Mexico, where they made lifelong friends with Chicago families who were also escaping the cold. The home in Playa del Carmen was a destination for fun-filled visits with their children, grandchildren and extended family.

Dr. Chermol's patients always looked forward to seeing him...a trip to his office was more like getting together with a family friend than a dental appointment. He knew his patients' names, their life stories, as well as those of their parents, children or grandchildren. He was a man of great faith and the quintessential Family Man - and his practice, along with every other aspect of his 83 years, reflected that.
