Dr. David Edward Swintek

Dr. David Edward Swintek (Des), 66, of West Chester, PA passed away on August 9, 2024 after a long battle with dementia. He leaves a huge hole in the hearts of his family and friends.

Des was born on November 9, 1957 in Latrobe, PA to H. Marie and David Swintek. He had three brothers (Mike, Jim, and Matt) and two sisters (Kathleen and Carol). His fondest childhood memories included exploring the outdoors with his older brother Mike and spending time with his grandparents.

In his early years, Dave wanted to join the Air Force and become an astronaut. As he got older, he realized that teeth were just as fun as flying planes. He graduated from the University of Pittsburgh in 1979 and Temple University’s Kornberg School of Dentistry in 1984. Temple Dental is where he met and fell in love with his wife, Dr. Barbara Diorio. Together, Drs. Swintek and Diorio founded two successful dental practices in Morton and West Chester.

He wore many hats in life - son, brother, dentist, boss, colleague, mentor, and friend - but none were more cherished than his roles as a husband and father. His children, Katherine and Bryan, inherited his belief that they could achieve anything, a gift that reflects his own unwavering self-confidence and determination. He was one of a kind.

Des retired from private practice in 2019, but continued to volunteer his time with Community Volunteers In Medicine (CVIM) and the Food Pantry in West Chester. He was an avid golfer and spent as much time as he could practicing his game.

We want everyone who knew him to focus on the best of him. It is what he wanted - to be remembered as a brilliant, talented, generous man with an incredible amount of integrity and a great sense of humor.

We invite Des' friends and family to join us for a Celebration of Life on Friday, August 23 from 10am to 2pm at Grace Winery (50 Sweetwater Road, Glen Mills, PA 19342). In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made in Des’s honor to the Alzheimer’s Association (alz.org), supporting the fight against this devastating disease.
