Dwight N. Peterson, Ph.D, age 54, of King of Prussia, PA, formerly of North Carolina, passed away on March 6, 2016. Born in Lawrence, MA. He was the son of C. Norman and Marlyce A. Peterson (nee Sturdy) of Harwich, MA.
Dwight received his Ph.D in New Testament from Duke University in North Carolina. He was employed as a college professor at Eastern University in St. Davids, PA for 15 years and retired in the Fall of 2012. During his tenure at Eastern University, he served as chair of the Christian Studies department and chair of the faculty senate. He received recognition for his teaching including the Lindback Award for teaching, and "Teacher of the Year" as voted by the students.
Due to complications from paraplegia, Dwight entered hospice care in the summer of 2012. During the last three and one half years he has maintained scores of friendships from his bed, and received hundreds of visitors. The family is grateful to the hospice care workers and nurses, and many friends who improved his quality of life during a lengthy home stay.
In addition to his parents, Dr. Peterson is survived by his beloved wife, Margaret Kim Peterson (nee Ault), his son, Mark William Peterson, and his siblings Bonnie Hawkinson and Kurt Peterson, and their families.
Relatives and friends are invited to visit the family Tuesday, March 8, 2016, 6:00-8:00 PM at St. Luke Evangelical Lutheran Church, 203 N. Valley Forge Road, Devon, PA 19333; and to his Funeral Service on Wednesday, March 9, 2016 at 2:00 PM, also at the church. Interment will be private.
