Earl was born on September 9, 1926 to Earl M. Waterhouse, Sr. and Doris Waterhouse (née Harvey).
He grew up in North Philadelphia, graduating from Northeast High School. During high school, he worked as a bicycle delivery boy for a local butcher shop. After graduation, Earl worked as an apprentice photoengraver at Triangle Publications in Philadelphia, which published TV Guide and Seventeen magazines.
A year and a half later, he was drafted into the Army at the end of World War II. Milne, and they lived in Llanerch and Springfield (Delaware County), Pennsylvania, where they raised four children together.
After a divorce some years later, Earl married his second wife, Carole. When Carole died of cancer, Earl met and married Ruth Benedict. Earl enjoyed gatherings with his family, at which he visited with his children, grandchildren, and three great granddaughters.
He was an avid professional and college sports fan, and especially liked watching broadcasts of the Phillies' and Eagles' games.
Earl and Ruth enjoyed a wonderful retirement together, cruising to ports around the world, visiting San Diego, and spending the summers at a vacation home in Bridgton, Maine. On many of these occasions, Earl enjoyed visiting with Ruth's sons: Mark, John, and Jim, and their families.
