Edmund Joseph "Ted" McGurk, 86, formerly of Berwyn, passed away March 18, 2018. Born September 18, 1931 in Philadelphia, PA to Edmund Bernard and Helen Homeyard McGurk.
Ted graduated from Temple University Dental School and began practicing dentistry in the US Air Force on Guam where he met his wife. He married Josephine McLaughlin on August 17, 1957 in South Orange, NJ. He is survived by his wife of 60 years, his children, Edmund, Jr., Michael, James, & Christine and grandchildren, Shannon, Bryan, Peter, Ellison, Justin, Caroline, Shilo, Tegan, Mary Caitlin, Carissa, Jorja, Walter, Josephine, Michael, & Matthew. He was preceded in death by his daughter Ellen and his brother Robert.
Ted found great joy in his family and was passionate about dentistry, skiing, sailing, & photography. Ted was an active member of the Pennsylvania Dental Association and greatly enjoyed trying to better the field of dentistry. He taught his children, grandchildren, extended family, and many friends to ski. He so enjoyed swishing down the slopes with his friends and family and always did so with an enormous smile. As a young man of 14 years old, Ted sailed to victory in the Moth Class Junior World Championship. Ted's love for photography showed in his many pictures which could be found in his office, his home, and his children's homes.
Calling hours are Sunday, March 25, 2018 from 4-6 pm at Donohue Funeral Home, 366 W Lancaster Ave, Wayne, PA and Monday March 26, 2018 from 10-10:45 am at St Monica Catholic Church, 635 First Ave, Berwyn, PA. Mass of Christian Burial will follow at St Monica Catholic Church on Monday at 11 am.
The family would like to express their sincere gratitude to the staff at Rolling Fields Elder Care Community for their compassionate care during Ted's stay. We will be forever grateful to all who treated Ted with dignity, kindness, and love and continue to treat Jo with the care and respect that was shown to our father.
