Edward J. Kennedy, 81, of Hampden Township and formerly of Yeadon, PA and State College, PA, passed away at his home on November 9, 2015. He was born in Philadelphia on Christmas Day in 1933, and was the youngest of eight children of the late John and Mary (Corr) Kennedy. He is survived by his wife, Mary Ann (Burns) of 59 years and nine children, Edward (Jacqui Hunt), Kathleen Small (Kenneth), Maureen, Marianne DiDonato (John), Denise Kennedy Watson (David), Michael, Patricia Stephens (Warren), Teresa, and Brian (Kristina Casale). He is also survived by his brother Thomas and sister Eileen McCarry, numerous nieces and nephews and 17 grandchildren which he was so proud of! Preceding him in death, in addition to his parents, were his siblings Joseph, John, Julia Hagenbach, Sister Ann Miriam, RSM and Virginia.
He graduated from Saint Thomas More High School in 1952 and earned his degree in Business Administration from Saint Joseph University. He also attended graduate studies at the University of Pittsburgh and the University of Pennsylvania Wharton School. Before working on his telephone career, he served two years in the United States Army during the Korean conflict. He held a variety of positions with the telephone company ranging from sales to public relations and customer service. He also held the position of Vice President for Regulatory and Governmental Relations before being elevated to the position of Vice President and Special Assistant to the President.
He was a member of Good Shepherd Church where he enjoyed attending daily mass with his wife and was a member of the church's Caring Team. In addition, he was an active member of the community where he served on many committees as a Board member and Vice President Resources for Keystone Council of the Boy Scouts of America, where he received the Silver Beaver Award and was the 1991 Eagle Calls Honoree, a member of the John West Society Chairman of Cancer Crusade for Dauphin County Unit of the American Cancer Society, ambassador of the Capital Region Economic Development Corporation, member of the Capital Labor-Management Council, Tuesday Club Board of Governors, Director of Capital Region Chamber of Commerce, Board member of Community General Hospital, Trinity High School Development Board, Drug Free PA Board, Allied Arts Board, Crime Stoppers of Dauphin County Board, Corporate Alliance for Drug Education Board, Pinnacle Health System and its Foundation Board.
Ed's fondest memories were made in Sea Isle City, NJ where he met the love of his life, his wife, Mary Ann. He proudly spent 82 consecutive summers in Sea Isle. He loved to be surrounded by family and friends while watching sunsets on the deck with a Manhattan in hand.
