Edward W. "Ed" McDonald, age 89, of Upper Darby, PA, passed away on February 19, 2014. Born in Philadelphia, he was the son of the late Eugene and Grace McDonald (nee Hartley).
Ed served in the U.S. Army Air Corps as a tailgunner on a B-17 where he flew 35 missions in the European Theatre. He was a Purple Heart recipient. He was a retired supervisor at the Philadelphia Navy Yard. He was employed part time at Upper Darby Beverage and at the age of 89, was still working at Charlie's Hamburgers.
He enjoyed traveling with his wife Charlotte, with whom he shared 63 ½ years of marriage. He and his wife traveled throughout the 50 states and also in Europe. He was a life member of Llanerch Fire Company and the American Legion Post. He loved going to the Jersey shore with his family. He was an usher and active member of St. Cyril of Alexandria Church.
In addition to his wife, Charlotte, Ed is survived by his children Patty (George) Bodine, Theresa (Francis) Devlin, Eddie (Virginia) McDonald, Ginny Davis, Lynn (Kevin) Kramer, Daniel (Heather) McDonald, his sister Grace Holly, 20 grandchildren, 13 great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his brothers Fritz and Bunny and his sisters Ellen and Norma.
Relatives and friends are invited to his viewing Monday, February 24, 2014 9:00-10:45 AM St. Cyril of Alexandria Church, 153 Penn Blvd., East Lansdowne, PA followed by his Funeral Mass at 11:00 AM. Interment SS Peter & Paul Cemetery.
