Edward Dennis Miller ("Big Ed"), 77, of Islamorada, Florida, died peacefully on March 20, 2018, surrounded by his family.
Big Ed was a prince and a fighter. He knew pain and he knew great joy. Big Ed also knew that the ocean was one step closer to the divine; once he found the water, that is where he spent his life.
Big Ed figured out a lot of things before most people did, including what is real, what is phony, and the things that matter are family, friends, and living your own life on your own terms.
After growing up in Collingdale, PA, and after running the family plumbing & heating business for nearly 25 years, Big Ed also figured out how to retire at an early age, in his case, 46 years after his birth on January 30, 1941.
When he departed, Big Ed left behind many family members who deeply loved him, including his four sons, Ed Miller (Amy), Mike Miller (Janice), Dan Miller (Shauna), and Mark Miller (Jennifer), his twelve surviving grandchildren (Samantha, Kelsey, Blake, David, Jaqueline, Jessica, Nicholas, Cole, Ben, Amanda, Lauren, and Kayla), his sister Constance Ann Bailey, and the love of his life, Ann M. Miller.
He was preceded in death by his beloved sister, Frances "Frankie" Henderson, and his brother, Leonard Miller.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions are requested to the Thomas Jefferson University Hospital Bone Marrow Transplant Unit 125, S. 9th Street, Suite 600, Philadelphia, PA 19107.
Relatives and friends are also invited to his viewing at 7:00-9:00 p.m. on Thursday, March 22, 2018, and 8:30-9:30 a.m. Friday at The Donohue Funeral Home, 1627 West Chester Pike, West Chester, PA 19382, (610) 431-9000, followed by his Funeral Mass at 10:00 a.m. at SS Simon & Jude Church, 8 Cavanaugh Court, West Chester, PA.
