Edward John Nichols, age 86, of Newtown Square, PA, passed away peacefully on September 15, 2021, surrounded by his loved ones.
Born in Drexel Hill, PA, he was the son of the late Thomas and Winifred (nee Cassidy) Nichols.
Ed was the previous owner and operator of both the Nichols Plumbing Heating and Cooling Co. in Upper Darby, PA and the Ye Olde Ale House in Springfield, PA. He was an avid boater and enjoyed landscaping and gardening. He loved to be around people and socialize, frequenting his favorite spots until his last days.
Ed was the beloved husband of the late Gail (nee Glassmire) Nichols, the loving father of Christopher T. Nichols, Matthew J. Nichols, Mark A. Nichols (Sandra) and Michael E. Nichols (Stephanie). He is the proud grandfather of Stephen (Megan), Alyssa, Laura, Jessica, Andrew (Colleen), Erin, Luke, Connor, Patrick and Quinn. He is also the great-grandfather of Max and Zoey.
Ed is also survived by his wonderful partner, Bonnie Tegethoff, and was lucky to be the best friend of Duke Heinemann for over 72 years. Ed is also survived by his brother, Anthony Nichols. He is predeceased by his sister, Pearl Smith.
Relatives and friends are invited to his Visitation, Sunday, September 19, 2021, 11:00 AM – 1:00 PM at The Donohue Funeral Home, 1627 West Chester Pike, West Chester, PA 19382, 610-431-9000. Interment private.
In lieu of flowers, contributions to St. Jude Children’s Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105, would be appreciated.
