Edward J. Stankiewicz, age 90, of Upper Darby, PA passed away on January 6, 2016.
Born in Laflin, PA to the late Anthony and Mary (nee Petroski) Stankiewicz, Ed proudly served in the U.S. Navy during World War II on the U.S.S. Langley. He worked at Boeing after his military service and retired after 37 years as a Tool Shed Supervisor for General Electric. Ed loved to travel in his RV and van and toured the country multiple times. He played the accordion and was in a band in his younger years playing at various local taprooms.
A beloved uncle, Ed regularly visited his nieces and nephews, happily greeting them with a "Hey pal" and always bringing lots of goodies including Philly soft pretzels, Godiva chocolates, Suzy Jo's donuts, Stopay's candy, and locally produced honey.
Ed was well known by friends and family as the go to guy for tile work. And using his snow blower and lawn mower, he made sure his neighborhood sidewalks were the first cleared after a storm and lawns were mowed up and down the street. He was always there to lend a helping hand for anyone who needed it.
Ed's courage, strength, sacrifice, and what family called his "superman" powers during particularly challenging times was an example to all. He always put others before his own needs. He was truly a member of what has been called the "greatest generation". Ed will be missed dearly.
Ed is survived by his beloved nieces and nephews Charlie Kneale (Yuko), Cheryl Davis (Bill), Joan Biondi (Ken), Rose Condi (Joe), John Stankiewicz, Paul Stankiewicz (Denise), Terry Stankiewicz, Sharon Stankiewicz and Matt Stankiewicz. He is also survived by his many adored great-nieces and great-nephews and his sister-in-law Rose Stankiewicz.
Relatives and friends are invited to visit the family Wednesday, January 13th from 10:00-11:30 AM at The Donohue Funeral Home, 8401 West Chester Pike, Upper Darby, PA 19082 (610) 449-0300 followed by his Funeral Service at 11:30 AM. Interment: SS. Peter & Paul Cemetery.
