Edwin Winter

January 29, 1936 — March 7, 2020

Edwin “Ed” Thomas Winter, age 84, of Broomall (formerly of Springfield – Delco), PA, passed away peacefully on March 7, 2020 surrounded by his family.  Born in the Meadows section of Philadelphia, PA, he was the son of the late Joseph Winter and Mary Winter (nee Singley).

Ed graduated from John Bartram High School in 1953 with honors and was on the Track and Field Team that won the City Championship Title.  He received his Associate in Business Administration in 1967 and his Bachelor in Business Administration in 1982 from the University of Pennsylvania in the prestigious Wharton School of Business. Ed was a member of the Sigma Kappa Phi Honor Society.

Ed served in the United States Air Force from 1954-1958 where he attained the rank of Airman First Class stationed in Gruenstadt, Germany and was honorably discharged. He was very proud to have played on the 6914th RSM basketball team as a guard which won the Western Division Squadron Level Championship title.

Ed was employed at Aldan Rubber Industries for almost 30 years, first as controller and later

CEO and co-owner. He was a long-term volunteer at St. Francis of Assisi Parish in Springfield - Delco.

He enjoyed spending time with family, discussing politics, and was a lifelong Phillies fan. He was a Man of Malvern, attending the PECO/Good Shephard retreats for 25 years. He also enjoyed playing tennis and outdoor activities.

Ed is survived by his beloved wife of 61 years Christa Winter (nee Mang) whom he met while stationed in Germany.  He was the loving father of Christa Winter, Karen McShay (John), Edwin Thomas Winter, Jr. (Maryann), Mark Winter (Suzanne) and David Winter (Melanie).  Dear grandfather of Alex Homan, Nathaniel Homan, Ryan McShay (Fiancée Victoria), Kaitlyn Kishbaugh (Eric), Elizabeth Winter (Partner Santo Mazzeo IV), Stephanie D’Antonio, Edwin Thomas Winter III (Fiancée Yordana Bolanas Salas), Matthew Winter (Keily), Brendan Winter, Brittany Winter, Angela Winter, Kyle Winter, Hanna Winter, Lukas Winter, Katharina Winter and Evan Winter. Great-grandfather of Leah Winter, Santo Mazzeo V, Eli Winter, and Olava Winter Bolanos.  He is also survived by his brother, Robert “Bobby” Winter.  He was predeceased by his brothers, Joseph, George, John “Jack” and sisters Mary McCracken and Margaret Winter.

Relatives and friends are invited to his Viewing, Thursday Evening, March 12, 2020  6:00-8:00 PM at The Donohue Funeral Home, 3300 West Chester Pike, Newtown Square, PA, 610-353-6300 and on  Friday, March 13, 2020, 1:00-2:00 PM at St. Pius X Church, 220 Lawrence Road, Broomall, PA 19008 followed by his Funeral Mass at 2:00 PM.  Interment at SS Peter and Paul Cemetery, Springfield, PA. 19064
