Eileen Staats

January 13, 1926 — April 27, 2015

Eileen Mary Staats (nee Quinn), age 89, passed away at her home on April 27, 2015. Eileen, the youngest of six children, was born on the campus of the Williamson Trade School in Media PA where her father was caretaker. She was preceded in death by her parents, James and Anne Quinn, siblings Jim, Charles, Jerome, Bernard, and Margaret Quinn Smith and her devoted husband Robert F. Staats, Sr.

The Quinn family relocated to Springfield when Eileen was 9 years old. She attended St. Francis of Assisi School and Notre Dame High School in Moylan, where she played the violin in the school orchestra. After high school, Eileen pursued courses in Fashion Illustration at the Philadelphia Museum School of Industrial Arts where she developed a lifelong interest in the arts.

After graduation, Eileen worked at the Federal Reserve Bank of Philadelphia where she met her future husband. In 1947, she married Bob and they made their first home in Drexel Hill. By 1958, they built their new home in King of Prussia where she and Bob raised their six children.

Eileen was very involved in Mother of Divine Providence Church and school. She volunteered her time as an aide in the school library and served as secretary of the parish's Women's Club and the PTA. Eileen also founded a non-profit organization called Baby's Wish to collect clothing for infants and collaborated with Birthright to distribute the clothing to needy families. She also worked part-time at Gimbels and Strawbridge's at the King of Prussia Plaza.

After her children were raised, she finally found the time to pursue her passion in art. Eileen was an active member of the local arts and crafts community. She regularly displayed her work at area crafts fairs and was often commissioned to create her art for special events and occasions. In fact, Eileen won numerous awards for her work and her "sun" paintings were featured several times on the CBS Sunday Morning program.

Based on a lifelong interest in all things Irish, Eileen and her husband traveled often to Ireland, especially spending time with members of her father's extended family in Armagh, Northern Ireland.

Eileen is survived by her children Jim (Bunny), Skip (Mary Pat), Nancy (Dennis Boerner), Christine (Kip Lacy), Marianne (Joe DiMatteo), Maureen (Michael Morlath); grandchildren Tim, Johanna, Kevin, Quinn, Matt, Jill, Sean, Liam and Maggie; and great-grandchildren Owen, Tyler, Cassidy, Will, Kate, Bobby, Molly, Chloe, Brooks, Ryan, Reagan, Charlie and Teddy.
