Eithne Mary Weir (Kerins) born July 8, 1927, in Collooney, Co. Sligo, Ireland, first child of Patrick and Mary Ann Kerins. Surviving siblings are Dympna Harrison, Paddy Kerins, Donal Kerins, Dermot Kerins, and Francis Kerins.
After graduating from high school, she went to England to study nursing/midwifery. Eithne became a midwife and worked in Coventry, England from 1950 to 1957.
She married Norman Weir (an Englishman) in June of 1956. She leaves behind her children: Sherwin (Robert) Ferguson; Aidan (Susan) Weir; Amanda (John) Buoni; Declan (Jean Marie) Weir; Brendan (Marci) Weir; Karen Weir; Andrew (Tess) Weir; and Brian Weir; her grandchildren, Sara Ferguson, A.J. (Vanessa) Weir, Tristan (Amanda) Weir, Madie Weir, Rachel (Jared) Helm, Brendan Buoni, Claire Buoni, Arwen Buoni, Emily Weir, Ethan Weir, Colleen Weir, Molly Weir, Patrick Weir, Kenny Weir, Maliah Weir, Joshua Weir and Caleb Weir, as well as her great-grandchildren Hannah Weir and Gray Spinozzi. She is predeceased by her husband, Norman Weir; son, Michael Weir, granddaughter, Amanda Ferguson, and siblings Austin Kerins and Breege Bergin.
Eithne and her husband emigrated to America with the first six of their nine children in 1966, and settled in Swarthmore, PA, where they had three more children. Eithne was a devoted Roman Catholic. Eithne enjoyed spending time at the Swim Club, gardening, knitting, and visits from her overseas relatives. They moved to a 55+ Community, Riviera at Concord in 2003. In later years they lived with their children. Eithne died peacefully at the Tel Hai Retirement Community at the age of 95.
Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Saturday, October 15th at Sts. Peter and Paul Parish, West Chester PA, visitation at 9:30 am and Funeral Mass at 10:30 am. The burial will be private. Donations can be made in Eithne’s memory to Tel Hai Retirement Community, a registered 501.C.3 charitable organization, Telhaidevelopment@telhai.org.
