Ernest Maurice “Ernie” Allison, age 81 of Dillsburg, PA, passed away peacefully on April 15, 2025 after a brief illness surrounded by his loved ones. Born in Oreland, PA, he was the son of the late Ernest J. and Margaret M. Allison (nee Swank).
A proud alum of Springfield Township High School, where he graduated in 1961, Ernie furthered his education at Villanova University, earning his degree in 1966. His professional odyssey commenced with an impressive 26-year management career at DuPont in Wilmington, DE. Following this esteemed tenure, he dedicated his time part-time to Wilmington Trust, the Black & Decker Outlet, and the Kitchen Collection.
In addition to his professional endeavors, Ernie served with distinction in the United States Army reserves from 1967 to 1972, with one year of non-combat active duty in 1967.
Ernie's interests were as expansive as his heart. He passionately collected model trains, exhibiting the same meticulous care that he showed in all facets of his life. He was an ardent supporter of Villanova Basketball, the Phillies, and the Eagles. He enjoyed time with his neighbors and friends in Claymont, Beacon Hill, Salisbury Street in Dewey Beach, and Aspen Meadows in Rehoboth Beach, where he moved to full-time in 2002 until his move to Dillsburg last year.
A devoted husband for 52 years to Bonnie, Ernie embodied the essence of “in sickness and in health.” He stood by her side with unwavering support during her six-year battle with Alzheimer's, demonstrating a level of compassion that few can match. His love and support for his family never wavered, even in his final days of life.
Ernie's faith played a significant role in his life, as evidenced by his affiliation with several parishes: Holy Rosary Catholic Church in Claymont, the Church of the Holy Child in Wilmington, and St. Edmond's Catholic Church in Rehoboth. His spiritual life was intertwined with his community engagement, reinforcing the bonds he formed throughout his life.
Ernie fought valiantly through cancer on four separate occasions, showcasing a heroic resilience that inspired all who knew him.
Ernie was the loving husband of the late Bonnie Allison (nee Insley) for 52 wonderful years; loving father of Stephen Allison (Sarah) and Jonathan Allison (Kristin); adoring grandfather of Maggie, Chase, Harry, and Giuliana; caring brother of Francis Allison (Elaine); devoted uncle of Katie, Joseph, and the late Francis. Also survived by his Godson, Andrew Coupe.
