Eva Weissenberger

Eva Maria Weissenberger passed peacefully in her home in Wayne, PA during the early hours of December 1, 2020.

She was surrounded by her loving family. Eva was born on September 11, 1933 in the idyllic small town of Schärding, located on the Inn River in Upper Austria. She was the oldest of three sisters. This is where her family, the Fischers, owned and operated the Abtsmühle, a flour mill and farm, for over 750 years. While the mill is no longer in operation, her sister Ulla and nephew Josef Fischer still live on the family property. Her descendants were originally from northern Germany but were brought to this area of Austria on the behest of the Catholic Church, who was enticing Catholic families to move south by giving them land and businesses. Although Eva grew up during World War II under fascist German rule, she had fond memories of her childhood in Schärding and considered her family blessed to have had a farm to produce food during war torn times. At the age of 10 Eva left home and attended the Ursulinen Cloister School for Girls, a boarding school in the city center of Salzburg where she was taught by nuns. After graduation Eva moved to Vienna and was one of the few women who attended University. After receiving her PhD in International Business Administration from the University of Vienna, Eva had a successful career working for the Atomic Energy Agency in Vienna for 10 years until she met Guntram Weissenberger at a bus stop in Vienna in front of the Imperial Hotel. Although it was love at first sight, Eva made Guntram wait two years before agreeing to marry him and move to the United States. Together she and her husband had a family and built a successful commercial real estate business outside of Philadelphia where he was the risk taking entrepreneur and she was the one who organized the show behind the scenes. Guntram and Eva’s dedication to building a strong business foundation continues to foster a successful and growing multi-generational family company.

Eva was a widow as her beloved Guntram passed away in December of 2012. After a remarkable 87 years, Eva leaves behind a daughter Nina and a son Guntram J, Jr., their spouses Carlton and Claudia, eight grandchildren, Guntram, Eleanora, Cooper, Magnus, Charlton, Leonie and Kitt, her sister Ulla and three nephews, Kurt, Klaus and Josef.
