Frances Ann (nee Miczko) Gorny, 93, of Granite Farms Estates, Media, PA, formerly of Old Bridge and Red Bank, NJ, peacefully passed away on April 3, 2024.
Born July 23, 1930 in Perth Amboy, NJ, she was the daughter of the late Peter and Rose (nee Galowski) Miczko.
Frances was a graduate of Perth Amboy High School and then went on to Jersey City State Teachers’ College, earning her BA in Education and later, her Masters by taking night classes. She worked as a teacher for over 35 years in various grades in Woodbridge, Piscataway and East Brunswick Townships. She finished her career as a 6th grade teacher in Middletown Township, NJ, teaching for approximately 18 years and retiring in 1988.
Frances was an avid reader. She loved biographies and stories that took her to new and exciting places. She enjoyed reading and writing short stories and poetry. Her command of the English language, grammar and spelling were outstanding. Her perfect penmanship remained intact for all her years. Those who knew Frances knew how important the Palmer Method was to her and she instilled these skills in her children and students.
Frances loved animals. She could identify birds by sight and sound. She liked cats and dogs. Frances loved her poodle, Napoleon and her cockapoo, Junior. Both dogs brought her so much comfort and enjoyment.
Frances collected stamps. She carefully soaked each cancelled stamp to remove any residue and then added the stamps to her wonderful collector’s book that was divided by country and year. Frances enjoyed this hobby.
Frances enjoyed traveling. After early graduation from college, Frances traveled by Greyhound across country to California, a state she was always deeply fond of. She returned to the east coast but was able to travel west so that she could share her love of the state with her family. She lived vicariously through her son, Joseph who currently resides in California.
A caring and dedicated mother, Frances always made sure that her children were well educated. She provided them with ample opportunities to read or be read to, to enjoy many visits to the local libraries, to explore our country’s national parks and beautiful historical cities. Frances made sure that her children enjoyed enriching activities such as swim, dance and piano lessons, theatre, and summer camps.
Frances was the wife of the late Joseph Gorny; loving mother of Denise Vetre (Gary) and Joseph Gorny (Susan); dear grandmother of Christina Salazar (Jorge); great-grandmother of Camila and Javier Salazar; and beloved aunt of Elaine Buss (Martin) and Diane FitzGerald. She was predeceased by her sister, Bernice Imre.
