Francis Downs, Jr.

Francis J. "Frank" Downs, age 90, of Newtown Square, PA and Cape May, NJ, passed away on April 22, 2014. Beloved husband of the late Phyllis J. Downs (nee Murphy), married for 54 years. Loving father of Christopher Downs, Barbara Hatch (Frank), Carolyn Downs and the late Eugene Downs. Brother of Robert , Mary Schachinger, Joseph, Margaret Stallard and the late Helen Flannery and Donald Downs. Also survived by 7 grandchildren, 1 great-grandchild and many nieces and nephews.
Frank was active in the construction industry as a construction manager for the Daniel J. Keating Company of Villanova, Ardmore and Narberth where he worked for 30 years, contributing to major construction projects in Pennsylvania, New Jersey and Saudi Arabia, retiring in 2003.
Frank was a veteran of WW II and served in the US Army Reserve, achieving the rank of Lt. Colonel before he retired in December 1972 after 30 years of service.
Frank was a Newtown Square native for over 59 years. He graduated West Catholic HS and attended Villanova University before joining the army in January 1943.
Frank enjoyed spending time with his family and especially his time with them in Cape May.
