Francis Gillin

Francis “Frank” Gillin, age 72, of Drexel Hill, PA, passed away on December 13, 2024. Born in Philadelphia, PA, he was the son of the late Joseph and Lucille Gillin (nee McFadden).

Frank was the beloved husband of Margaret M. Gillin (nee Horan); loving father of Lisa Gillin-Kennedy (Rocky) and Tracy Senkow; grandfather of J.T., Luke, and Shawn; caring brother of Ginny Bryson (the late Tim), Joe Gillin (Ruth Ann), Harry Gillin, (Sue) Michael Gillin (Janice), and brother-in-law, Richard Broderick. Predeceased by his sisters, Christine Gillin and Bunny Broderick. Also survived by many nieces and nephews and his beloved dog “Chippie.”

Frank was a man of integrity and unwavering commitment, Frank found his calling as a volunteer fire fighter with the Garrettford Drexel Hill Fire Company, a role he embraced with enthusiasm since 1974. His journey within the ranks of this esteemed organization was marked by diligent service and leadership; he not only rose to the rank of Lieutenant but also held various pivotal positions on the board of directors, including Asst. Chief to the firehouse portion. His steadfast dedication exemplified the true spirit of community service, as he gave himself fully to the protection and well-being of others. Frank was employed by Upper Darby Township for 49 years and retired in 2019.

Frank was not solely defined by his professional engagements; he cherished his moments of camaraderie at Columbo Lodge 109, where he was a proud member. His heart was as expansive as his commitment to the needs of those around him—he would go to great lengths to aid anyone in distress, embodying the adage that "a friend in need is a friend indeed."

Beyond his service, Frank was an avid sports fan, unwaveringly supporting the teams of Philadelphia with a passion that painted his life in vibrant hues of joy and team spirit. His love for the game was a testament to his infectious enthusiasm and loyalty, qualities he cherished deeply in all aspects of his life.

Relatives and friends are invited to Frank’s Visitation 9:30-11:00 AM on Wednesday, December 18, 2024 at The Donohue Funeral Home, 8401 West Chester Pike, Upper Darby, PA 19082, followed by his Funeral Service at 11:00 AM. Interment Private.
