Francis Lawrence McHugh

Francis Lawrence McHugh, age 72, of Douglasville, PA, formerly of Upper Darby, PA, passed away on August 21, 2024. Born in Darby, PA, he was the son of the late Joseph and Gertrude McHugh (nee Barrow).

Larry's life was defined by an unwavering commitment to his country. He served honorably in the Navy for an admirable span of 22 years, participating in the Vietnam and Persian Gulf Wars. His military service exemplified not only bravery but also a deep sense of duty that resonated throughout his life. Larry stood as a testament to the ideals of valor and integrity, rising each day to meet the challenges before him with fortitude and a distinguished spirit.

Beyond the seas and the rigors of service, Larry carved a culinary legacy that spanned 36 years as a chef at Villanova University. His passion for cooking transformed the dining experience of countless students and faculty alike, as he infused his creations with a warmth that mirrored his own generous heart. Through his craft, he nurtured not only appetites but also souls, leaving an indelible mark on all who savored his culinary artistry.

Larry found joy in fishing, where the tranquil waters mirrored his calm demeanor, in reading, where entire universes unfolded before him, and in gaming, where adventure beckoned. He also engaged in the community through his involvement with the American Legion and the Knights of Columbus, where he built bonds with fellow veterans and exemplified the principles of fraternity, charity, and patriotism.

Larry was the beloved husband of Carol Ann McHugh (nee Calhoun); loving father of Larry McHugh (Allyson), Kathy Maxwell (Tony), Bob McHugh (Jen), Carolann Spinka (Michael), and Janet McHugh (Kharis Byrd); adoring grandfather of Madison McHugh, Jasper McHugh, Priscilla McHugh, Anna McHugh, Shanna Gallihue, Claire McHugh, Braxton McHugh, Conner Spinka, Leianna Byrd, and Julius Byrd; caring brother of Joseph McHugh, Michael McHugh, Anne Lamb, Helen Curran, Jimmy McHugh, and Marie Fitzsimmons.

Relatives and friends are invited to Larry’s Viewing 9:00-10:15 AM on Friday, August 30, 2024 at St. Philomena Church, 41 E. Baltimore Ave, Lansdowne, PA 19050, followed by his Funeral Mass at 10:30 AM. Interment Private.
