Francis Monaghan, Jr.

August 4, 1931 — February 23, 2016

Francis E. "Frank" Monaghan, Jr. of Drexel Hill, PA, passed away on February 23, 2016. Born in Philadelphia, PA, he was the son of the late Francis E. Sr., and Philomena Monaghan (nee Lenahan).



Frank was a graduate of La Salle University and Notre Dame University, a member of the Knights of Columbus and The Catholic League. He was a Professor of Sociology for 47 years at Immaculata University. He founded and headed the Sociology Department, establishing social work as a significant concentration within the department and served as President of Immaculata's professional organization's chapter of the American Association of University Professors for 20 years.Throughout the summers of the 1960s, he worked as a Park Ranger Historian at Independence Hall in Philadelphia . He retired with the honor of Professor Emeritus.



Frank was a beloved husband, father, grandfather and friend. He is survived by his wife of 54 years Mary Louise Monaghan (nee O'Donnell), his children Rosemary Young, Anne Keough and Molly Monaghan Lammy (Jack), his grandchildren Kieran, Kaitlyn, Hannah, Matthew, Patrick and Owen, his sister, Patsy Duffy (Jim) and his brother-in-law, Eugene Dunbar. He was predeceased by his sister, Mary Dunbar.



Relatives and friends are invited to his viewing Thursday, March 3, 2016 8:30-10:30 AM The Donohue Funeral Home, 8401 West Chester Pike (cor. Lynn Blvd.), Upper Darby, PA (610) 449-0300 and to his Funeral Mass at 11:00 AM St. Dorothy Church, 4910 Township Line Road, Drexel Hill, PA. Interment SS Peter and Paul Cemetery.



In lieu of flowers, contributions in Frank's memory to St. Malachy Church, 1419 N. 11th Street, Philadelphia, PA 19122 would be appreciated.
