George A. Burns, age 99, of Drexel Hill, PA, passed away on October 8, 2019. Born in Washington, D.C., he was the son of the late James E. and Grace Burns (nee Hinman).
George was a 38 year veteran of the United States Army. He served during World War II in the CBI Theater. He was a 50 year member of the Boy Scouts of America, where he received the Silver Beaver Award, the Dan Beard Award the Flame and Cross and Wood Badge. He had been employed as an Accountant with Morris Wheeler Steel.
George was a Masonic member of the Cassia Mt. Horeb Lodge #273 for 70 years and Secretary for 16 years. He also held memberships in the Valley of Philadelphia, Scottish Rite Bodies, MSA, York Rite Bodies, AMD, RCC, YRCH, National Sojourners, the VFW, ROA, MOWN and the Masonic Veterans Melita Chapter.
George was predeceased by his beloved wife, Marianne Louise Burns (nee Terry). He is survived by his children Richard Burns, Robert Burns (Patricia), Katherine Vettese (Anthony) and David Burns, his grandchildren Michele and Nicholas and his great-grandchildren Aaliyah, Benjamin and Natalie.
Relatives and friends are invited to his viewing Tuesday, October 15, 2019 7:00-9:00 PM and Wednesday, October 16, 2019 9:30-10:30 AM at The Donohue Funeral Home, 8401 West Chester Pike (cor. Lynn Blvd.), Upper Darby, PA (610) 449-0300 and to his Funeral Service at 10:30 AM. Interment West Laurel Hill Cemetery, Bala Cynwyd, PA.
