George A. Contino, Sr., age 73, of Drexel Hill, PA, passed away peacefully on November 10, 2022. Born in Philadelphia, PA, he was the son of the late Fortunato and Rita (née Porreca) Contino.
George honorably served his country in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam War and was awarded the Purple Heart. A 1967 graduate of Monsignor Bonner, he volunteered as a Judge of Elections for his district. George was employed with SEPTA as a bus/trolley operator for many years. He loved the Eagles and the Phillies and enjoyed watching the Flyers with his loving niece, Dawn Marie Seavey. He was an active bowler, a former member of St. Andrew’s Church, and most of all, loved being with his family and his faithful dog, Shaky Jake.
George was the loving father of George A. Contino, Jr. (Loreen) and Valerie Macielag (Chris); the proud grandfather of Nicolette, Marissa, Gus, Vinny, and Kylie. He is also survived by his sister, Dolores M. Seavey (Lawrence Sr.) and brother, Fred Contino (Debbie), as well as his many nieces, nephews, grand-nieces, and grand-nephews. George was predeceased by his sister, Darlene Gillette.
Family and friends are invited to his Viewing, Friday, November 18, 2022, 9:00 – 10:30 AM at St. Anastasia Church, 3301 West Chester Pike, Newtown Square, PA 19073, and to his Funeral Mass at 10:30 AM. Interment to follow at SS. Peter & Paul Cemetery, Springfield, PA.
