George Michael Wimmer

October 11, 1953 — August 29, 2024

Morton, PA

George Michael Wimmer, “Mike,” passed away August 29, 2024 at the age of 70. He was born at Taylor Hospital, Ridley Park, PA on October 11, 1953 to George D. and Constance Wimmer. He most recently resided in Holmes, PA, but also maintained a favorite residence in Glade Valley, NC.

Mike leaves behind his daughter, Shari M. Wimmer of Norwood, his son Adam M. Wimmer, and his sister, Patricia J. Harrington (Joseph) of Skippack, PA. He was Pop-Pop to Tyler Nolan, Mason Nolan, Jack Shaffer, Violet Shaffer, Adam Wimmer, and Kameron Wimmer. Former wife, Cheryl Garmela also grieves his passing, as do his nephews, Sean P. Harrington (Dawn), and Great Nephew, Conor of Lansdale, Kirk G. Harrington and Kieran J Harrington of Redondo Beach and Hermosa Beach, CA respectively. Mike also leaves many cousins and loyal friends.

Mike was a graduate of Ridley High School in 1971. He worked at Sunship Building and Drydock Company in Chester, PA, and he later was a truck driver for AT&T until an unfortunate road accident and the diagnosis of multiple sclerosis cut his career short.

In his youth, Mike reveled in summer vacations down the shore in Ocean City, NJ where he developed a lifelong love of fishing in any ocean, lake or stream; it did not matter. He later annoyed his parents while he played drums and loud rock music or jazz, for the love of which remained throughout his life. However, he also enjoyed the cerebral game of chess. Hiking with his Weimaraners, Dusty 1 and Dusty 2 was a pleasure while in NC as was riding his motorcycle through the hilly countryside. Watching documentaries, especially those involving nature, the environment and history led to many interesting conversations. Mike was an avid fan of the Eagles and the Phillies. Watching and listening to the Phillies helped him through his final months.

Relatives and friends are invited to his Life Celebration on September 13, 2024, from 10:00 AM to 11:30AM at Knoetgen-Donohue Funeral Home, 746 Kedron Avenue, Morton, PA 19070. Private family internment will follow at George Washington Memorial Park, 80 Stenton Avenue, Plymouth Meeting, PA 19462.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Mike's memory to the National Multiple Sclerosis Society, nationalmssociety.org.
