Gerard Woods

Gerard J. “Gerry” Woods, age 73, of Upper Darby, PA, passed away on October 5, 2021.  Born in West Philadelphia, PA, he was the son of the late Joseph A. and Margaret Woods (nee Murray).

Gerry was a proud graduate of St. Thomas More High School in Philadelphia, where he continued to serve the Alumni Association until his passing.   His Catholic faith remained important to him and he was an active parishioner of St. Laurence Church for nearly 50 years.

During the Vietnam War, Gerry served in the Army’s 101st Airborne Division.

Sports was an important part of Gerry’s life, particularly the Philadelphia Eagles, where he was a season ticket holder since 1973.  Gerry would often be found (and heard) at a game with family and friends, either watching them play or attending with them.

Most importantly, Gerry was a devoted family man-son, brother, cousin, uncle, dad and grandfather.  Nothing brought him more pride than his grandchildren, the time he spent with them and looking forward to all that lay ahead.  His parting words were “Everybody stay together.”

He is survived by his children Bernadette W. Placky (Matt Placky), Tim Woods (Rachel Woods), Annie Woods (Matt Fair) and Pat Woods (Liz Hoffmann), his grandchildren Tommy, Danny, Hadley and Alice and his brother Joseph Woods (Claire).

Relatives and friends are invited to visit the family Monday, October 11, 2021 6:00-8:00 PM and Tuesday, October 12, 2021 9:00-10:00 AM at The Donohue Funeral Home, 8401 West Chester Pike (cor. Lynn Blvd.), Upper Darby, PA (610) 449-0300 and to his Funeral Mass at 10:30 AM in St. Laurence Lower Church, 8245 West Chester Pike, Upper Darby, PA

Masks are required for the visitation and Funeral Mass.
