Grace DiAddezio

December 8, 1913 — January 21, 2018

Grace M. DiAddezio passed away peacefully in her sleep on Sunday, January 21 at The Wayne Center in Wayne, PA. She was 104.

She was predeceased by her parents, Rocco and Philomena (Coccia) Metricarti; her siblings and their spouses, Anthony Metricarti (Jean), Rosella Paolino (Samuel), Elizabeth Nicoline (Anthony), Margaret Norcini (Dominic) and James Meticarti (Helen); her husband, Dominic DiAddezio; and her beloved daughter, Phyllis Spingler (William). She is survived by her grandchildren, William Spingler, Jr (Donna), Marybeth Wilson (John) and her great-grandchildren, Kimberly and Natalie Spingler and Sarah, Katie, Julia and Luke Wilson.

Grace was born on December 8, 1913, in Coalton, WV, where her parents settled briefly after immigrating from Italy. As a young girl, her family moved to Wayne, PA. Grace attended St. Katharine of Siena Grade School and Radnor High School. Her childhood was a simple and happy one consisting of a loving family and a home filled with faith, good food and music.

On November 24, 1934 she married Dominic DiAddezio at Our Lady of the Assumption Church. Their only daughter, Phyllis, was born in 1942.

When her oldest sister, Rosie, died unexpectedly in 1938, Grace and her mother became the caretakers for her 6 children, the Paolino family, for 7 years.

In 1945, she moved to Garrett Hill with her husband and daughter and lived there for 62 years.

Grace was a skillful seamstress and worked at The Franklin Shop in Haverford for 22 years. After they closed, she moved to Joie de Vivre Boutique by Ann Pakradooni, restoring one-of-a- kind antique wedding dresses. She loved her days at the shop endearing herself to all of her co-workers and customers with her gentle spirit and graciousness.

Grace was a wonderful cook and baker, making all of the Italian specialties. Her favorite was to make batches and batches of pizelles, an Italian cookie, at Christmas time, to give to all of her friends and family. Everyone loved her pizelles.

Family was very important to Grace and she spent much of her life with her two grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. Her greatest joy came from her six great-grandchildren whose energy she matched well into her 100s.

Grace rarely slowed down. After her daughter's passing in 2007 she move back to to Wayne. She was involved in many organizations including the Wayne Senior Center where she quilted, helped in the kitchen and mentored young adults. She also made crafts and went on trips with the St. Katharine's Senior Club.

Grace was a remarkable woman, a true blessing. Her devotion to her faith, her vitality, sense of humor and loving ways were apparent to all who had the privilege of knowing her. She will live on in our hearts forever.
