Harold Waverly Booth, our beloved husband, father, and grandfather, peacefully passed away on November 6, 2016 with his family by his side.
Hal was born in Rochester, NY in 1934 to Herbert and Mildred Booth. He lived most of his childhood in Pittsford, NY. He had fond memories of this time that included a daily paper route, serving as batboy for the Rochester Red Wings, and hitchhiking across the country with his best friend, Johnny Parker. He headed to Cornell at the age of 16, where he was a member of ROTC, Phi Delta Theta, and the Sphinx Head Society. He graduated from the ILR School. After college, he headed to the Air Force where he became a F100 fighter pilot. He often told his family this was his most rewarding endeavor. While stationed at Luke Air Force Base, he married his college sweetheart, Flo Rae Spelts, on July 4, 1957.
After graduating from Duke Law School, he began a successful business career that took him and his family to many places including Lincoln, NE; Bloomington, IL; Hinsdale, IL; Council Bluffs, IA; and Gladwyne, PA. He was fortunate enough to work in a variety of positions from bank president to insurance executive while making innovative contributions along the way. His success enabled Hal and Flo to enjoy a lengthy retirement.
Hal loved spending time with his five children and 10 grandchildren. He always said his family was his greatest accomplishment and took enormous pride in each and every one of them. In addition to his loving wife, Floie, Hal is survived by his children: Becky Martens (Craig), Irvine, CA; Bill Booth (Kim), Niskayuna, NY; Eva Booth Ebert (Dave), Bryn Mawr, PA; Herb Booth, Gladwyne, PA; Rob Booth (Shari), New Hope, PA; Dr. Richard Olds, Long Island, NY (his surrogate son) & grandchildren, Andy, Billy, Emily (John), Spencer (Ali, fiancé), Jack, Chet, Emma, Riley, Ryan and Becca. He is also survived by his sisters: Becky Cipperly (Bob, deceased) and Cindy Ware (Jim). He truly enjoyed time with his entire family, including his many nephews and nieces.
There will be a private ceremony to celebrate Hal's life.
In lieu of flowers, please consider carrying out a random act of kindness this week in his honor.
