Hazen Bradford Hiser

It is with sadness that we announce the passing of Hazen Bradford Hiser, age 71, a beloved son, brother, uncle, and friend, who passed away on December 24, 2024. Born on November 19, 1953, in Salem, Massachusetts, to Paul Kohler Hiser and Adrianne Elaine Hiser (née Volberding). After moving a few times due to dads career with GE the family settled in Strafford (Wayne, PA) in 1965.

Hazen went through the T-E school system graduating from Conestoga High School, Berwyn, PA in June 1973. He attended and graduated with an associate degree from the Ohio Institute of Technology in May 1975.

After college, he moved back to the area and worked at a variety of companies. He moved to Delaware briefly but came back to Pennsylvania in 2017. He held various positions throughout his work life career and most of them were in facility and equipment management, maintenance and repair of large industrial manufacturing equipment. When he retired in 2022 he became an Uber driver. He took great pride in providing top notch service.

A proud Eagle Scout and Assistant Scoutmaster with Paoli 1 Boy Scout troop, Hazen paid it forward to other young scouts. He went to Philmont a few times with the scouts, as well as, to Algonquin National Park in Canada for camping, fishing, hiking and canoeing. He also enjoyed rock climbing in the Grand Tetons with the scouts. As a family we always volunteered to drive and chaperone those scouting adventures.

Hazen loved tinkering with anything that had moving parts. From a toddler taking apart and reassembling toys to a young man rehabbing an antique Ford pick-up truck, to his beloved Harley Davidson motorcycle, he could never quite let things be as they were. He always had to dismantle them, figure out how they operated then figure out how to make them operate better.

He was a passionate motorcycle enthusiast, finding freedom and joy in long rides along open roads and participating in Toys for Tots. In his younger years he loved camping, canoeing, sailing, scuba diving, photography and bike racing. Hazen grew up with a love for adventure, and the outdoors. Hazen’s culinary talents were equally notable; he had a special love for cooking and baking, often sharing his recipes with his family. In his later years he found a love for everything Anime (Japanese animation). In his spare time he loved watching movies and listening to classic rock and roll.

Throughout middle school and high school, Hazen was a member of the Wayne Presbyterian Church Choir and Youth Fellowship organization. He enjoyed the youth church retreats and sharing his love of music. During his school years he played clarinet, oftentimes collaborating with sister Rondi on the organ, brother Todd on the French Horn, dad on the saxophone, mom on the violin and all of us singing.

Family vacations were the highlight of every year when he was younger. All through elementary, middle school and part of high school the family took extended vacations to visit cousins, aunts and uncles in Ohio and Michigan. Some of the favorite vacations were staying with grandparents on Deer Lake in Clarkston, Michigan and on our cousins farm in Erie, Michigan. Every summer the family loaded up the Pontiac station wagon and went tent camping, pulling our 26 foot long sailboat behind. Our parents took us to almost every national park in the United States and several in Canada. I believe we visited every state except Hawaii. Our parents instilled in us all a love of adventure, exploration and learning about other places. We were the original Griswold family, in our station wagon, traveling cross country, seeing the largest ball of twine or the largest frying pan on our way to “Wally World” (California's Disneyland), stopping in historical towns along the way to learn about whatever that town was famous for.

Hazen is survived by his mother, Adrianne Hiser, siblings, Rondi Lavery (Joseph), Todd Hiser (Denise), and his nieces and nephews, Stephanie Ackroyd (Brad) and Cameron, Kelli Inglett (Ryan), Chris Hiser (Dana) and Violet, Andrew Hiser (Shannon) and Asher, Matthew Hiser (Kathryn), and Eric Hiser. He is also survived by several Aunts, Uncles and cousins.

Hazen never married or had a family of his own but he always attended family gatherings to hang out with parents, siblings, nieces and nephews. Please join the family in remembering Hazen.

A memorial gathering to celebrate his life will take place Saturday April 26, 2025 from 1:00 – 2:00pm at The Donohue Funeral Home, 366 W. Lancaster Ave, Wayne, PA 19087, 610-989-9600. Family and friends are invited to attend the celebration of life. The burial will be private.
