Helen V. Hughes, born on February 26, 1932, peacefully passed away on August 27 2024. Beloved daughter to the late Edward F. and Helen V. (nee Curtin) Cermack.
Helen is survived by her loving children, John J. Hughes Jr. (Helen), Jean Anne Principalo (Frank), Helene Lynch (Late Fran), and Michael Hughes (Jennifer); Brother, Edward Cermack (Joan); Grandchildren, Jamie, Francis, Jenny, Andrew, Taylor (Max), Allison (Tim), and Cara; Great-Grandchildren, Quinn and John Jay. Helen was predeceased by her loving husband, John J. Hughes Sr. and her grandson Frankie.
Helen left behind a legacy of love, kindness, and unwavering dedication. Helen enjoyed a commendable career as a registered nurse for 38 years at Boeing, where she demonstrated her commitment to caring for others with professionalism and compassion.
Helen’s vibrant personality was characterized by her loving nature, sense of humor, kindness, honesty, loyalty, faithfulness, and generosity. She brightened the lives of all who had the pleasure of knowing her, leaving an indelible mark on her family and friends.
Helen cherished her time spent with her grandchildren at Disney World, creating countless joyful memories. Additionally, she found great pleasure in the simple joys of life, whether it was the relaxing atmosphere of the Jersey Shore, attending church, or enjoying thrilling moments at the casino, particularly at the slot machines. Helen's home was her sanctuary, where she shared many laughs and special evenings with her loved ones.
An avid reader, she treasured the moments spent with books, often immersing herself in stories that captured her imagination. The holidays held a special place in her heart, especially Thanksgiving and Christmas, which she celebrated with warmth and joy. Helen was also known for her enthusiasm during family nights together, where her love for her husband and family shone brightly. She held a deep appreciation for the country and was a dedicated Philadelphia sports fan.
Helen is remembered not only for her professional achievements but also for her deep devotion to her family and community. Her kind spirit and generous heart will be profoundly missed by all who knew her.
As we remember Helen, we celebrate a life well-lived—a testament to love, family, and the joy of simple pleasures. Her memory will forever hold a cherished place in the hearts of those she touched.
Relatives and friends are invited to Helen’s viewing on September 3, 2024, from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM at Donohue Funeral Home located at 8401 W. Chester Pike, Upper Darby, PA 19082. A Mass in her honor will take place on September 4, 2024, at 11:00 AM at St. Matthias Catholic Church, 128 Bryn Mawr Ave, Bala Cynwyd, PA 19004. Interment at Calvary Cemetery, 235 Matsonford Rd, Conshohocken, PA.
