Henry Hudson Waltz

Henry Hudson Waltz of Secane, PA, passed away on March 31, 2025. “Hank” grew up in Rutledge, PA, and graduated from Swarthmore High School (Swarthmore, PA), Class of 1964. He was involved in scouting and the rifle team and enjoyed collecting stamps. He grew up spending time on the Indian River in Delaware crabbing and boating. In high school, Hank joined the Rutledge Fire Company and was a volunteer for many years. His children remember getting out of the way as he ran out of the house (often barefoot!) to respond to a call.

After high school, the Sun Shipbuilding and Drydock Company (Chester, PA) accepted Hank into their apprenticeship program as an electrician. Hank also started Rutledge Fence Company. You can still drive around the area and see some of the fences he installed! Ultimately, he spent the bulk of his career as an industrial electrician at Scott Paper, now Kimberly Clark, in Chester, PA, and retired in 2012. Over the years, Hank became quite the cook and enjoyed hosting holiday dinners.

Hank was an involved Pop-Pop to 14 grandchildren and 4 great-grandchildren, attending dance recitals, concerts, games, and numerous high school and college graduations. Hank enjoyed showing his Corvettes – at one point owning three – and joked that he was spending his “kids’ inheritance.” He kept his yard immaculate – dandelions didn’t dare show their faces – and had bountiful vegetable gardens each season. On his many walks with his beloved dog, Nikki, he would drop off tomatoes and other fresh produce to his neighbors. Hank worked hard all his life and instilled that work ethic into his five children of whom he was most proud. He loved them and the families they raised.

Right now, Hank is probably eating a peanut butter and jelly sandwich and some Reese’s Peanut Butter Cups and advising someone on tools or lawn care. He is and will be dearly missed!

Hank leaves behind his five children and their spouses: Jenny (Waltz) Greenzweig (the late Greg), Scott Waltz (Cathy), Marcy (Waltz) Augustine, Tamara (Waltz) Foden (Brad), and Juliette (Waltz) Wesley. In addition, he will be remembered by his 14 grandchildren: Alexis Augustine (Brian Pierce), Kyle Augustine, Kaitlynne Augustine, Hally Augustine, Sarah Greenzweig (James Wright), Micah Greenzweig, Taylor Waltz, Madison Wesley, Tyler Zagame (Samantha Zagame), Skyler Waltz, and Amber Waltz, as well as 4 great-grandchildren: Madelyn Pierce, Kayden Pierce, Stella Zagame, and Lily Zagame. Hank is also survived by his siblings, Joseph Waltz and David Waltz and his is beloved dog, Nikki, will miss him dearly.

Hank is preceded in death by his parents, Joseph R. Waltz & Crisoula (nee Skidas) and Julia Waltz (nee Fatchet). His beloved dog, Nikki, will miss him dearly.
