Hong Zhang, Ph.D., age 34, of Strafford, PA, passed away on December 15, 2017. Born in Xinghua, China, she was the only child of Shu Zhang and Xiuhua Gu.
Hong graduated from Nanjing University, where she met her husband, Yijun Huang. They married in 2007. Both studied at the University of Pittsburgh, where she received her Ph.D. in Chemistry. She was an excellent student with many scientific publications in Fluorous Chemistry with Professor Stephen Weber. She was a dedicated scientist working on biocompatibility of medical devices with fantastic colleagues at DePuy Synthes, a Johnson & Johnson Company in West Chester.
Hong Zhang was diagnosed with metastatic breast cancer in January, 2016. In her last two years, she fought the disease bravely and optimistically. She was seeking immunotherapy and co-authored a paper with her husband in Current Cancer Therapy Reviews to acknowledge her oncologist, Dr. Dennis Berman.
She tried to spend every minute possible to be with her son, Andrew Huang, and give him the warmest love of a great mother. Hong leaves behind her husband and a four year old son with beautiful memories.
Relatives and friends are invited to her viewing Wednesday, December 20, 2017 5:00-7:00 PM and Thursday 9:00-10:00 AM at The Donohue Funeral Home, 366 W. Lancaster Avenue, Wayne, PA (610) 989-9600 and to her Funeral Service at 10:30 AM Church of the Savior, 651 N. Wayne Avenue, Wayne, PA. Interment will follow in Valley Forge Memorial Gardens, King of Prussia, PA.
