Hugh Gallagher, Sr.

Hugh F. Gallagher, Sr., 88, of West Chester, PA, passed away October 27, 2021.

Born October 30, 1932 in Gladwyne, PA, he was a son of the late Hugh and Catherine (nee McGinley) Gallagher.
He was the beloved husband of the late Rita Gallagher; loving father of Hugh, Adriana, Timothy, and Monica; adoring grandfather of Gabrielle Langlois and Emmanuelle Langlois; dear brother of Joseph Gallagher and James Gallagher; and friend since third grade to Ted McGrath. He was predeceased by his siblings: Bernard Gallagher, Edward Gallagher, and Catherine “Cass” McGinley.

Hugh was a lifelong athlete, playing basketball and baseball; he enjoyed watching college football, high school baseball and basketball games.  He became an avid golfer in his retirement years.  He was active with his granddaughters when they were young, taking on bedtime duties and going places when they came to visit. He enjoyed playing the stock market. He had a sense of humor that could be silly or dry and was even on display in hospice. Hugh was generous, including funding a Catholic high school education for students he did not know and donating to a variety of organizations.

Relatives and friends are invited to his Visitation 1:00 PM to 2:00 PM, Saturday, November 13, 2021 at The Donohue Funeral Home, 1627 West Chester Pike, West Chester, PA 19382, 610-431-9000, followed by his Funeral Service at 2:00PM. Guests are asked to please wear a mask while in attendance. Interment is private.
