Hugh Nolan

December 17, 1937 — August 21, 2017

Hugh Vincent "Vince" Nolan, 79, of West Chester, PA passed away on August 21, 2017.

Born in Philadelphia, PA in 1937, he was the son of the late Francis Aloysius and Madeline (Letter) Nolan.

Vince was a 1955 graduate of St. Joseph's Preparatory School and St. Joseph's University where he obtained his Bachelor's Degree in Business in 1959 and his Master's Degree in Education in 1966. He began his banking career at Philadelphia National Bank where he spent over 40 years, retiring from Wachovia in 2001. After two months of retirement, during which time he served on jury duty and did nothing on his wife's "to do" list, Vince returned to the work force; this time for Cooperative Business Assistance Corporation, a non-profit organization based in Camden, NJ.

Vince also spent many years teaching evening classes for the American Institute of Banking and served as the President of its Philadelphia Chapter in 1977. In 1983, the AIB recognized Vince as the "Teacher of the Year." Vince served in and loved the United States Marine Corps.

Vince centered his life on his faith, family, and friends. Vince loved his family very much and had a personality larger than life. Never without a smile on his face, Vince lit up every room he walked into and brought joy to all of those around him. Vince was the natural center of attention but gave selflessly of himself. He had a genuine ability to make others feel special. Vince regularly volunteered at his Church where he was an extraordinary minister, an usher, a member of the Pre-Cana team, and a member of the Knights of Columbus. Vince was an active member of the Prep and College Alumni Associations. Over the ages, Vince was very active in numerous non-profits such as the Lions Club of Upper Darby where he served as President. In later years, Vince devoted much of his volunteer time to the community of Camden, New Jersey where the Latin American Economic Development Association, Inc. honored him with Campbell's Soup "Man of the Year" Award.

Vince was the beloved husband for 50 years of Mary Kate (McFadden) Nolan; loving father of Michael Vincent Nolan and Stephanie Deviney (James); devoted grandfather of Seamus Hugh Deviney, Payton Catherine and Keira Prudence Nolan; and dear brother of Natalie "Susie" Berkey (Wallace). Vince is also survived by his sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law; many nieces, nephews, and cousins; too many friends to mention; and his beloved family dog "Jakey," who became his constant companion over the last two years.

Relatives and friends are invited to his Viewing 4:00-7:00 PM Sunday, August 27th and 9:00-10:15 AM Monday at St. Maximilian Kolbe Church, 15 E. Pleasant Grove Road, West Chester, PA 19382 followed by his Funeral Mass 10:30 AM.
