Ignatius S. Hneleski, Jr., M.D., age 77, of Drexel Hill, PA, passed away on September 30, 2014 after a brief battle with cancer. Born on June 28, 1937 in Philadelphia, he was the son of the late Ignatius S. Hneleski, Sr., M.D. and Adelaide L. Hneleski (nee Dougherty). Dr. Hneleski's father was the Medical Director of Philadelphia General Hospital.
He was a 1951 graduate of St. Leonard's Academy, a 1955 graduate of St. Joseph Preparatory School, where he was the Salutatorian, and received his B.S. degree in 1959 from St. Joseph College. He received his Medical Degree from Jefferson Medical College in 1964.
Dr. Hneleski interned at Misericordia Hospital in 1964-1965 and did his residency in Opthalmology at Jefferson University Hospital from 1968-1971. He was a Fellow in Oculoplastic Surgery at Wills Eye Hospital in 1971. He was a Flight Surgeon with the United States Air Force and Chief of Aeromedical Services, 5010th U.S.A.F. Hospital in Fairbanks, Alaska.
Dr. Hneleski was on the teaching faculty with the Department of Oculoplastics at Wills Eye Hospital, Chief of Opthalmology at Chester County Hospital, and Chief of Opthalmology at Paoli Memorial Hospital. He had a private practice with Vistarr Laser and Vision Centers. His specialty was ophthalmic plastic surgery and cataract surgery. His memberships included the PA Academy of Opthalmology, the American Academy of Opthalmology, and Fellow of the American Academy of Surgeons (FACS).
He had a love of golf and was a member of Applebrook Golf Club and Overbrook Golf Club. He also loved Avalon, NJ, where he spent summers with his children and grandchildren on 26th Street.
Dr. Hneleski is survived by his beloved wife of 53 years Edna Wynne Hneleski (nee Lockwood). He was the dear father of Janice A. Dolan (Brian), Ignatius S. Hneleski, III, M.D. (Sundae), Theresa W. Prasalowicz (Gary) and Robert J. Hneleski (Carey). Brother of Diane Parlee (Ken) and the late Elaine M. Hneleski and J. Bruce Hneleski (Karen). He is also survived by his grandchildren Andrew, Grace and Corinne Dolan, Ignatius IV, Victoria, Julia, Gabriella Hneleski and Harrison Barkes, Lauren (Anthony) Ambrosine, Caroline, Paul and Luke Prasalowicz, Robert, Ava Hneleski, Chloe Curtis and the late Ridge Hneleski.
