James C. "Jim" McBride, Jr.

James C. McBride, Jr., age 82, passed away on September 27 th at his home in Glen Mills, PA. He was born in Philadelphia to the late James and Marie (nee McMichael) McBride. 

Jim was a man of integrity whose handshake was his word. He was a gifted athlete who competed and won medals in the Penn Relays, and he was also a semi-pro football player until age 35. He was a champion bowler. Jim proudly served in the United States Army where he was an M.P. and Criminal Investigator. He was a decorated Philadelphia Police Officer.

Jim was a lifelong learner. Using his G.I. Bill benefits, he went on to college and graduated with honors from both Delaware County Community College where he was class salutatorian, and from Widener University.

Following graduation from Widener, Jim owned and operated Jimmy’s State Inspection in Upper Darby and co-owned McBride and McBride Associates with his wife Jane as well. He was an ordained Universal Life Church Minister. Jim was a life-long motorcycle enthusiast and was  president of Chapter G Vietnam Veterans Motorcycle Club of Gladwyne. 

Jim is survived by his loving wife Jane, (nee Kerrigan), his beloved children Michelle Savage (Milton) and James McBride, III (Denise), his cherished grandchildren Brandon, Troy and Giovanni and his nine great-grandchildren. Also survived by his siblings Steven McBride and Michael McBride. Predeceased by Marie Mitchell, Barbara Crothers, Catherine Sciubba and Thomas McBride. 

Relatives and friends are encouraged to ride their motorcycles, wear their colors or their Jimmy’s State Inspection attire to his Visitation on Thursday, October 3rd from 10:30 am to 12:00 Noon at The Donohue Funeral Home, 1627 West Chester Pike, West Chester, PA, followed by his Memorial Service at 12:00 Noon. Interment is Private.
