James Cogill

September 5, 1948 — September 5, 2017

James 'Jim' R. Cogill, of Newark, Delaware, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, September 5, 2017, at Penn Presbyterian Hospital on his 69th birthday. Born in that same hospital to Robert and Doris Cogill, Jim was raised in Aldan, PA and lived much of his life in West Chester, PA before moving to Newark in 2004.

Preceded in death by his parents Robert and Doris, and brother David. Survived by his siblings Kathy (Kirkpatrick), Kevin, and Robert, his son James (Kelly) Cogill, son Timothy (Kristina) Cogill, daughter Sarah (Mike) Kubicki, and son John (Alyssa) Cogill, many grandchildren, nieces, nephews and extended family. Jim was a loving father, grandfather and a one-of-a-kind friend to all.

Longtime coach for his children on the field with GVLL and GCVSA and off the field through adulthood. Later in life, a very active volunteer with Rebuilding Together Philadelphia, Stamp Out Hunger through Quest Movement, VA Chapel of Wilmington in Elsmere, along with thirteen years as an usher welcoming visitors to the University of Notre Dame.

Jim's career as a project manager of facilities and construction included long stretches at The Franklin Mint, Longwood Gardens, and MBNA/Bank of America before retiring in 2015. He then took to the road and followed his heart leaving wakes of smiles up and down the east coast.

As with his kids, "Papi" was a constant presence for his seven grandkids at every concert, ball game, and campfire; really any given weekend we'd be on the lookout for him to join and share a story.

His greatest joy will always be seeing his own children be loving parents.
