James A. Coons, age 73, of Woodlyn, PA, passed away on September 1, 2014. Born in Philadelphia, PA, he was the son of the late George A. Coons, Sr. and Mary Coons (nee Mulhern).
James was employed as a cook for Pica's Restaurant in Upper Darby, PA and Barnaby's in Havertown, PA. He spent most of his life in Delaware County, however, he resided in Woodstock, VT for 10 years. He was known as the unofficial "Mayor" of Upper Darby. His interests included cars, rock 'n' roll, especially the Grateful Dead, and cooking. He was an avid Philadelphia sports fan who never gave up on his beloved Philadelphia Eagles.
He was predeceased by his brother Johnny Coons and his sister Mary Ann Coons Dougherty. He is survived by his daughter Karen R. (Brian) DeWalt, his grandchildren Zachary and Trisha DeWalt, his siblings George A. (Carol) Coons, Winnie (Jeff) Jefford, Joseph (Mary Ellen) Coons, Margaret (Robert) Angeny and Denise (Joseph) DiMarco) and many nieces and nephews.
