James Dennis Brett, 78, of West Chester, PA, passed away on July 13, 2020. He leaves behind a community of family and friends who will miss his kindness, wit, and generosity of spirit.
Born in Philadelphia, PA in 1942, he was the beloved son of James P. and Catherine M. (neé Peterson) Brett, both deceased, and the dear brother of Carole Kornsey.
Jim was the loving husband of Carol Ann (neé Colgan) Brett, to whom he was married for 49 years, and the proud dad of Maria L. Mooney (Joe) and Kate E. Brett Miller (Jason), as well as James Peter Brett, who predeceased his father on March 11, 2020 and joyfully welcomed him to heaven. He delighted in his grandchildren, Vincent J. Brett, Peter W. Brett, Caroline L. Mooney, and Claire E. Mooney, as well as countless in-laws and a few grand-dogs.
Jim was a graduate of Frankford High School, LaSalle University, and the Stonier Graduate School of Banking. He spent his career in Commercial Banking, working his way to the top of the ranks as a Senior Vice President of Girard Bank among others, with his strong work ethic, disciplined intelligence, and gregarious personality.
In a life dedicated to being of service to others, he held some roles of which he was especially proud. He served with honor as a Staff Sergeant in the United States Air Force. A volunteer for 40 years with the Salvation Army (West Chester Corps), he held a position on its Advisory Board. And he was a Unit Commissioner of the Boy Scouts of America (Chester County Council). If he had the time, expertise, or resources to share with someone in need, he always did so without hesitation. To know Jim was to be taken care of by him.
