James Vito DeLia

November 30, 1939 — November 9, 2024

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of James Vito DeLia, who left us peacefully on November 9, 2024 at the age of 84.

Born November 30, 1939 in Pittston, PA, he was a son of the late Salvatore and Rose (nee Pagnano) DeLia.

James moved with his family to Chester, PA where he spent his childhood years. He then married his devoted wife Dolores and resided in West Chester, PA, where he built a legacy of love and devotion to his family, who were his world.

A proud graduate of St. James Catholic School for Boys, James served his country as an Army veteran. He then became a public servant as a West Chester police officer, embodying the values of integrity and community. Later, he joined the Steamfitters Local Union 420, where he worked with pride and commitment for 30 years. After his retirement, he continued serving his community as a Tip Staff at the Chester County Courthouse.

Throughout his life, James was known for his kindness and unwavering support as a wonderful provider. He cherished every moment spent with his family, which brought him the greatest joy. He had many interests and hobbies. He loved fishing, watching old movies, game shows and wrestling, indulging in his passion for coin collecting, and taking pride in his beautiful garden and fig trees. He always enjoyed long rides through the countryside and never missing a chance to stop for a good dinner and of course some dessert. But of all of these, it was the time shared with his loved ones that he valued most.

James leaves behind a loving family who will forever remember his gentle spirit, warm laughter, and the countless memories they created together. His legacy of love will live on in their hearts, a testament to a life well-lived.

He was the beloved husband of Dolores B. (nee Franciotti) DeLia; loving father of Leo DeLia (Cathy), Larry DeLia (Diane), and Lisa DeLia-Hodson (Peter); adoring Pop-Pop of Doug, Courtney, Zachary, Raymond, Tommy, Larissa, James, and Jordan; dear brother of Josephine Fossity (the late Robert), Elizabeth Simcox (Kenneth), and Thomas DeLia (Linda); and proud brother-in-law of Consiglia DeLia. He is also survived by his sister-in-law and brother-in-law Richard and Antoinette Filiaggi as well as many great-grandchildren, nieces, and nephews. James was predeceased by his siblings: Daniel DeLia and Lucille Ulrich and brother-in-laws George Franciotti and Ad Ulrich.

Rest in peace, dear James. You will be deeply missed and forever remembered.
