James P. Elko (“Jimmy”), age 61, of Spring City, PA lost his decades long battle with depression on July 22, 2024. Born and raised in Havertown, PA.
Jimmy is survived by his beloved wife, Barbara A. Elko (nee Abbott), his children MaryAnn C. Elko and Dennis J. Elko, his siblings Dennis J. Elko (Charlotte), Gary M. Elko (the late Barbara), Maureen A. Seward (Barry), Stephen J. Elko (Carol), Philip A. Elko (Catherine), Kathleen T. Colucci (Stephen), Richard A. Elko (Anne), Robert Elko (Beth), and the late Paul J. Elko. He was a devoted brother-in-law of Ronni Delaney, Anne Michele Abbott (Vincent Marano), Carole Abbott (Chuck Cahill), and Joseph Abbott (Anja) He is also survived by 22 nieces and nephews and 24 great nieces and nephews who will miss him deeply.
Jim graduated from Monsignor Bonner High School (class of 1981) and later from St. Joseph's University with a degree in Financial Management. He was a long-time parishioner at Annunciation BVM parish in Havertown and later at St. Laurence parish in Upper Darby and now at St. Joseph parish in Spring City, PA.
Jim was a stay-at-home Dad who was wholly invest in his children’s lives; from field trip chaperon, to activity chauffeur, to fan in the stands, Jim made sure that his children knew that he was one their biggest supporters. He was the most fun uncle always ready to play from goalie for street hockey, to designated driver for bachelor parties, and always being quick with a joke.
Jimmy was a “shadetree” mechanic and enjoyed long drives in his Miata. He was a sports enthusiast with unwavering support for the Philadelphia Flyers, Eagles, and Phillies. A man of many talents and interests, Jimmy found joy in building home computers, collecting coins, and investing wisely in his financial future, writing poetry, solving Sudoku puzzles. His keen intellect and sharp mind shone brightly in all facets of his life.
In the realm of hobbies and interests lay Jimmy's true passion – family and friends. He hosted an annual Memorial Day Softball/BBQ gathering for 32 years where laughter mingled with shared memories while feasting on delicious food cooked with love. His presence brought warmth and light to every gathering he attended.
Relatives and friends are invited to Jimmy’s Visitation 9:30-11:00 AM on Monday, July 29, 2024 at Annunciation BVM Church, 401 Brookline Blvd., Havertown, PA 19083, followed by his Funeral Mass at 11:00 AM. Interment will be held at a future date.
