James Esq. Jr.

James F. Kilcur, of West Chester, PA, passed away on February 19, surrounded by his beloved family. He was 62.



Jim is survived by his loving wife of 35 years, Maria Theresa; three sons, James Francis III, wife Kristen and granddaughter Annabel Katherine; Patrick Ryan and fiancé Julie; and Matthew Victor; sister Marguerite Eagan and husband Russ; brothers-in-law Rev. Msgr. Ralph Chieffo and Angelo Chieffo and wife Anna and nephews Michael and Stephen.

Jim was born in Philadelphia to the late Rita and James Kilcur, Sr. He attended St. Martin of Tours Grade School and Cardinal Dougherty High School where he was a varsity basketball player. He earned his undergraduate degree from DeSales University; his master's degree from Lehigh University, and his law degree from Widener University.



Jim joined Saul Ewing LLP in May 1995; he was a partner in the Labor, Employment and Employee Benefits Practice where he tried and supervised labor and employment related cases in federal and state courts.

Prior to joining the firm, he served as an attorney for SEPTA, joining the Authority in 1978 and retiring in 1995 as General Counsel. He was appointed Acting SEPTA General Manager in 1987; he was credited with implementing a successful antifraud program and helping rebuild trust in the organization.



Jim remained active with DeSales University throughout his career, serving on the Board of Trustees since 2002. He was elected chairman of the Board of Trustees in 2011. Additionally, he was a Director on the Board of the Irish American Business Chamber & Network. A man of great faith, he was a member of St. Maximilian Kolbe Church and a Fourth Degree Knight.

A viewing for Jim will be held at 7 to 9 p.m., Monday, February 24, at St. Maximilian Kolbe in West Chester and from 9 to 11 a.m. Tuesday, February 25, at St. Mary Magdalen in Media. Funeral Mass will begin at 11 a.m.
