James (Jim) Thomas Flynn, 85, of West Chester, passed away Saturday, June 15, 2019, at home surrounded by his loving family.
Jim was born December 17, 1933, in Lykens, PA , the son of the late Eugene and Margaret (O'Neil) Flynn.
Jim grew up in Shamokin, PA and received his BS degree in Mechanical Engineering from Bucknell University where he was a member of the Theta Chi Fraternity. Jim met Barbara Jean Wills while at Bucknell.
Jim proudly served 2 years in the United States Army Corps of Engineers and on October 11, 1958, he married the love of his life.
Jim and Barbara recently celebrated 60 years of marriage.
He joined the General Electric Company in 1957 where he progressed to General Manager of the Installation and Service Engineering Department. Jim joined the Long Island Lighting Company in 1986 as the Vice President of the Utility's Fossil Production Unit. He held several other positions at LILCO before being named President and Chief Operating Officer in 1996.
Along with his wife Barbara, he is survived by his four children, Kevin E. Flynn (Coleen) of West Chester, PA,Craig T. Flynn of Hartland, MI, Shawn P. Flynn of Enfield, CT and Kara Flynn Wilson (Bob) of King of Prussia, PA and his seven grandchildren, Maggie, Cate, Scott, Molly, Craig, Bridget and Claire.
Jim enjoyed, sailing on the Long Island Sound on his Pearson 303 the Anniversary, Golfing, fishing off his Pro-line The Miss Katy, reading books, watching football games, going out to dinner with family and friends, traveling with Barbara, spending summers in Sea Isle City and winters in the Florida Keys.
He was a proud husband, father and Grampy, who liked nothing more than to be with his children and grandchildren. He was an avid Phillies, Eagles, Steelers, Bucknell, Pitt and Penn State fan. Jim loved his oysters, ice cream, chocolates, Budweiser and J&B Scotch. He was a proud and humble patriotic Irishman.
Along with his parents, he was preceded in death by his sister, Peggy Patrilak and brother, Eugene Flynn of State College.
Relative and friends are invited to his Visitation 7-9 PM Friday, June 21, 2019 at The Donohue Funeral Home, 1627 West Chester Pike, West Chester, PA 19382 610-431-9000, and to his Funeral Mass 10 AM Saturday at St. Anastasia Church, 3301 West Chester Pike, Newtown Square, PA 19073. Interment is private.
