James Hay, Jr.

June 29, 1942 — August 25, 2016

James D. "Jim" HAY Jr., 74, passed away Thursday August 25, 2016 at Neighborhood Hospice in West Chester surrounded by his family. He was the loving husband of Patricia A. (CAMPBELL) HAY with whom he shared 54 years of marriage.



Born in West Philadelphia he was the son of the late James D. HAY Sr. and Beatrice EFCAVITCH and was a 1960 graduate of West Catholic Boys High School, Philadelphia.



Jim was a realtor for over 40 years, having been a member of the Weichert Realty Team for many years. Jim also served as a teacher and mentor for the Chester County Association of Realtors.



Jim and Pattie were founding members and parishioners of St. Maximilian Kolbe Catholic Church, West Chester, Pa.



In addition to his wife Pattie, Jim is survived by his children, Kathleen NAYLOR (Brian), Patty PICKARD (Rob), James D. HAY III (Laura), and Regina CAREY (Shawn).and his grandchildren James D. IV, Lehman, Luke, Rob, Elizabeth, Michael, Grace, Catherine and Caroline, siblings Kay MAZZONE (Anthony), William EFCAVITCH (Julia), Kim EASTER (Tim), Julia PICKARD (Sam), William HAY (Jane), Thomas HAY (Denise), David HAY (Mary), and Judy HAY (Diane). He was pre-deceased by his loving son John Thomas HAY and his brothers John HAY and Paul EFCAVITCH.



Jim's life long passion was supporting children with special needs. As co- founder of Camp Joy, Jim was instrumental in creating a safe and fun environment for children with special needs to experience camping and outdoor activities. Jim spent countless hours developing Camp Joy and engaging others to join him on his mission to provide a camping experience for children.



Jim was an enthusiastic motorcycle rider for 44 years and Lifetime Member of the Harley Owners Group, the NRA, held an Amateur Radio License for over 45 years (call sign WB3ALF), an Eagle Scout, former Cub Scout Master for St. Agnes, a member of the United States Marine Corps Association and Foundation, a member of the Jaycees, the Chester County Antique Car Club, an avid reader, and a dedicated sportsman, specifically enjoying hunting and archery or merely just a walk in the woods.



Among his many awards and achievements throughout his career Jim was named the Chester County Realtor of the Year in 2001, a 2001 National Association of Realtors Good Neighbors Award Honorable Mention, and was presented with the West Catholic High School Brother G John OWENS Alumni Award in 2016. Jim stated that his greatest blessings were his children and precious grandchildren. Jim never missed an opportunity to speak with great pride and delight of them.



The family would like to thank the staff of the Chester County Hospital Intensive Care Unit for all their dedication and compassion during Jim's illness.

Jim's Mass of Christian Celebration will be held Tuesday, August 30 10:00 AM at St. Maximilian Kolbe Catholic Church located at 15 East Pleasant Grove Road, West Chester PA, where family and friends may call from 9-9:50 AM followed by his funeral service.
