James E. “Jim” Lyon, 89, of West Chester, PA passed away on May 27, 2023.
Born in Philadelphia in 1933, he was the son of the late Paul and Catherine (née Dougherty) Lyon.
Jim worked at PECO for nearly 40 years in the accounting department. After retiring from his Accounting Supervisor position, he was ordained a Catholic Deacon on May 23, 1993. He spent 25 years as a Deacon at SS Simon & Jude Church. He baptized many babies in the parish, assisted at funerals and weddings, visited the sick, and served on the altar for Sunday and daily Mass. He and wife Betty were actively involved in church organizations such as CCD, RCIA and Marriage Encounter.
He was a true family man, dedicated to his wife and very proud of his family. He and Betty actively participated in their children’s activities, cheered from the sidelines at their children and grandchildren’s sporting events, and attended all family high school and college graduations. They loved to camp with family and friends, join in neighborhood picnics, tell entertaining stories, and share a good laugh. They enjoyed traveling to Maine every summer to visit Betty's sister and family. They also enjoyed traveling with friends to Sea Isle City, the Holy Land, Alaska, Ireland, and Italy, to name a few destinations.
Jim had a happy, positive spirit and an infectious laugh that made people happy to be around him. He loved helping people and would drop everything to lend a hand.
He was the beloved husband, for 68 years, of Elizabeth “Betty” (née Mauser); loving father of Jim Lyon Jr. (Dot), Steve (Mary), Patty Mapa (Steve) and Beth Rubino (Ted); devoted grandfather of Andy, Bobby, Becky, Brielle, Brigette, Garrett, Benjamin, Christina, Alex, Connor, Brittany, Nicholas and Elizabeth; proud great-grandfather of Nova and Theo; dear brother of the late Paul Lyon and Rita Collier; and uncle to many nieces and nephews.
